“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” (Psalm 19:1)

Today the morning skies are a shadowy gray announcement that rainfall has been invited to the podium.

Tiled roofs, windowpanes, and slate sidewalks howl back applause as the rain’s microphone commands center stage. Immediately, the landscape knows that a force to be reckoned with is in the house. Water falling, crashing, and inundating leaves the distinct impression that the heavens are announcing God’s spectacular composition.

Thunder and lightning follow close behind; the rain’s arrangement was opening act for the main attraction. Booming sounds and electric bolts overshadow the water’s serenade. The skies above are proclaiming God at work, in charge, and in control. Spectacular showers should always grab our attention.

The thunderstorm and electrical charges are compelling visuals of God’s message to his people. He is here and will not be silenced. He is detailed caretaker and divine protector of this world. Do not misinterpret or dodge his words because you are categorically indifferent, unaware or oblivious to his undeniable presence.

When the remains of the concert become tranquil droplets with small, scattered puddles in tow, we are left to question our own brand of praise. Why are we less vocal than the skies? What earthly use are we, if not to declare his worth in word and deed? With whom are we sharing God’s accolades through the seasons of our lives?

And if heavenly voices distinctly point others in his direction, should ours not do the same?

“Let the people’s praise you, O God; let all the people’s praise you! The earth has yielded its increase; God, our God, shall bless us. God shall bless us; let all the ends of the earth fear him!” (Psalm 67:5-7).
