Prayer for Ukraine

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone; and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6:9-10)

Dear Father,

We acknowledge that you are supremely in control of all the world and realize we do not need to bring you up to date on what is occurring in Ukraine. We worship you for your sovereign rule over all the circumstances that seem to be totally out of control. Lord of heaven and earth, we cry out to you as your children. Please come to the aide of our brothers and sisters in Ukraine. Reinforce them with your strength and your divine protection. You be their Defender and their Protector against every form of evil that is coming against them now.

Father we ask that you fortify your church in Ukraine and give courage to all those who call themselves followers of Jesus Christ. Help them to minister in your name and have the necessary resources to bring hope and healing to their neighbors round about. Remind them daily that you are with them, that you will not leave them or forsake them. May their hearts and minds be saturated with who you are and what you are capable of rather than the incredible challenges they are facing.

For those seeking refuge in other lands, for those making their way to the borders of Poland, Hungary, and Moldova, would you find them a safe place of shelter. Please mobilize the believers in these lands to open their doors wide and to welcome in the women, children, and elderly fleeing from Ukraine. Father, please comfort the children who are fearful, who have been ripped from their homes and schools, who had to leave their fathers behind without any assurance of when they might see them again. You are the Father to the fatherless; surround the children most especially with your love.

Lord, all the necessary provisions for the people of Ukraine are in other countries controlled by other governments. Would you rain down compassion and mercy on these entities so they release the supplies needed to reinforce the men fighting for their homeland. Please prompt the countries of the West to rise up and bring medical and military aide to the men and women fighting for their freedom.

God, we implore you to bring a quick end to this escalating war. This is not a task too difficult for you. We recognize that you alone have the solutions, you alone have the answers. We are asking for a miracle, a God-sized miracle. We cry out to you as your children who are powerless but who know without a doubt that you have all the necessary might and power to overcome and succeed.

Please open the eyes of the timid and remind them that the battle belongs to you. Strengthen the weak with your assurance that it is not by might or by power but by your Spirit that they will prevail. Surround your people and your churches in Ukraine and beyond with your strong arm of deliverance. May your name be lifted high and may all know you as Deliverer and Defender of the weak.

We pray this in the powerful name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Thank you for leading me in this prayer, Elizabeth. You put in words the longings of my heart and remind me of the strength and power of our Lord to go before our brothers and sisters in need. I will pray this often this week.
