Precarious

“He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.” (Hebrews 1:3)

The white envelope sat menacingly on my desk, daring me to read its contents. I eyed the suspicious return label for days, knowinimage-1g perfectly well that a bureaucratic fine awaited me. Finally, I scanned the letter, acknowledged the impending consequence, and, with a heavy heart, called the department responsible.

After I explained my precarious position, I asked if anything could be done to rectify the situation. Was there a way to fix this problem? Could he explain what I should do next?

The calm voice on the other end assured me that he understood my predicament perfectly. Then he spoke six simple words: “I will take care of that.” Incredulously, I rephrased my pressing need, certain that somehow I had been misunderstood. With a tone and manner that gave me confidence he had the authority to completely handle my case, he said again, “I will take care of it.”

A hundred-‐pound boulder rolled off my chest; suddenly, everything around me seemed brighter, easier to manage. I cheerfully began to file the documents away but suddenly stopped with my hand beside the desk drawer.

Wasn’t this precisely how my Father in Heaven would respond when I’d come barging into his presence with concerns that overwhelm me, with bewildering details that confound or confuse me? When I hoist my heavy loads onto his lap, when I cast my cares in his direction, invariably he, too, responds, “I will take care of it.”

He reminds me throughout Scripture, “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known” (Jeremiah 33:3).“Before they call I will answer; while they are yet speaking I will hear” (Isaiah 65:24). “But I call to God, and the LORD will save me. Evening, morning and noon I utter my complaint and moan, and he hears my voice” (Psalm 55:16-17).

Crystal clear and compelling, our Lord is perfectly able to handle questions, queries, and cumbersome loads, regardless of their height, depth, or heavy weight.
